The AW Blacks are the flagship performance choir of Sing in the City. A dynamic, high energy vocal group made up of talented, passionate singers who love a challenge and live stage. Based in Edinburgh the Aw Blacks are not your average choir. They are bold, professional and completely unforgettable. Under the direction of inimitable Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley, this group have performed at the Usher Hall, The Queens Hall and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. They have arranged songs for Kirsten Adamson, Nell Bryden and worked with G4.
The Aw Blacks bring power, personality and polish to every performance. Their name comes from their signature ‘all black’ look on stage but their spirit is anything but dark, they shine like a 100 stage lights.
Whether collaborating with bands, appearing on TV, recording original material or helping raise £200,000 for charity, the Aw Blacks are proof of what happens when talent, teamwork and tenacity collide.
Do want to sing at this level? There is an audition process and the Directors expect you to ‘earn the right to share this stage’. Commitment, hard work and a whole lot of heart makes this choir work. Members are drawn from across our Sing in the City choirs and represent the very best of what we do.
