From Edinburgh Castle to the OVO Hydro with Skipinnish
The summer of 2025 was an epic year for Sing in the City! We were proud to be part of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2025, performing at the iconic Edinburgh Castle for 25 shows under the theme Heroes Who Made Us. Over the course of the Tattoo, more than 800 of our members took part, with 200 singers performing each night.
Our two songs – Eagle’s Wing by Skipinnish and Travel These Ways by Karine Polwart – were a highlight of the programme, and the audience response was incredible.
One particularly special moment came when Angus MacPhail of Skipinnish attended the Tattoo and loved what we brought to the performance. He went on to invite us to join the band on stage at the OVO Hydro. For that show, 15 of our singers performed our arrangement of Eagles Wing with Skipinnish on stage, while another 400 members were in the audience, filling both the seating and standing sections with support and song.
Our directors, Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley, are accomplished songwriters and arrangers who have created countless works for Sing in the City. Over the years, they have led choirs to perform alongside Nell Bryden, G4 and Kirsten Adamson
