Kirsty Baird puts a little Sunshine on Leith for Ron Gordon’s visit to Easter Road

Kirsty has always been a Hibernian supporter since childhood and has many a ‘not so’ fond memory of her Dad shoving her and her brother under the turnstiles. Changed days now, she is a season ticket holder with her Dad, nephew and cousins and now sits in the East stand supporting the green and white.

When she got the invite to bring 30 Sing in the City Aw Blacks to Easter road Stadium to sing Sunshine on Leith on Wed 10th July for the owner Ron Gordon, Leeann Dempster and the Hibernian Community Foundation, she jumped at the chance. The song by the Proclaimers was already in their set as was I’m on my way, they just needed to rehearse the night before for an hour to brush up on them ready for the visit the following day.

Kirsty, Annette and the Aw Blacks were made to feel incredibly welcome on the day and the 2 songs went down a storm with Ron asking if he could join and Kirsty really wishing she had ‘brought her tambourine’.

‘It was fab to be a little bit if Hibs history and making music in an inclusive warm welcoming family space is what Sing in the City are all about and we look forward to forming a new partnership with Hibernian Football club and Community foundation, we had a fab day and my Dad is awfy chuffed’

The Aw Blacks gave Kirsty the nick name ‘Chief’ years ago when the first rolled out Sunshine on Leith for a Scottish show and it has stuck ever since. So to hear her guys sing ‘While the Chief… put sunshine on Leith’ at Easter Road to the Hibs new Chief was extra special.

Above is the official Hibernian interview and video and the one below is the Sing in the City video.
